If you found value in this content, please help me continue this work by becoming a patron of my work via Patreon. And if you are already a subscriber or have donated – thank you! It is an enormous help as the cost-of-living crisis ratchets up here in the UK.
My duty, as I see it here, is to restate the obvious, to a completely oblivious world.
The climate scientists in the second-to-last piece, from the centrist Guardian, some, anyway, tell the world, “No more burning of fossil fuels.” As in, now, immediately, across the board.
These number cruncher scientists are not, however, affiliated or connected, in any way, with a branch of academic science that used to be called “sociology.” This defunct branch used to study human social institutions, but the corporate super system has rendered this branch of informed research dead.
Sociology would have asked: what is the Socio-Political Mechanism (SPM) that exists, or could exist, to get humanity to give up its fossil fuel burning?
Who or what does the enforcement? With what method of stopping the worldwide fossil fuel economy dead in its tracks?
Anyone? Pan-O? Right wingers, left wingers, anyone? Scientists, who presumably drive, have money and homes, commitments to keep breathing in an ultra social reality?
That’s right, the SPM does not exist, not in reality, not even in the most arid speculative theory.
Again, feel free to ignore this comment. You have to carry on with your day. Who cares, amirite?
“…what is the Socio-Political Mechanism (SPM) that exists, or could exist, to get humanity to give up its fossil fuel burning?”
This is a good question, Martin. Also, even if there were such a mechanism, what would that kind of dramatic and uncontrollable economic contraction actually mean in practice?
[Leon Simons is talking about North Atlantic sea surface temperatures and having a little dig at Michael Mann in the process here].
And a well deserved dig at that from my fellow countryman here . Mann has been selling out slowly but surely for years to some middle of the road commercial intermediary , the type I hate, to make a buck
Alarism is reasonable , not goodie two shoes middle of the road visions . Neither on climate, migration, or anything

By the way Zip (kan beter in Nederlands wellicht, maar vooruit , nog andermaal) i december you strangely asking about personal details from my travels and having a dig at me for not riding the Delhi train with poor people in India , but actually travelling in more luxury, like I admittedly do, I still saw the horrific results of overpopulation the last two decades or so. So I’m not sure what you’re getting at vriend .
Unless.. you share Lou”s utterly one sided quips about me not sharing facts, while he himself is an extreme left wing denier of anything that doesn’t fit his agenda like the obvious overpopulation , and obvious unsustainable migrant stream we deal with in western europa that Lou apparently missed in middle America
Responses like those are why me and many realistic thinking conservative green thinkers have never had a place in XR types of groups , green people live in their fantasies where the 8 billion of the world will hold hands and resources are endless once you make everything woke and multi cultural
This one is especially for you Zip, and I’ll explain our noble wild cowboy Lou , even later generation immigrants, and even dedicated muslims in neighbourhoods surrounding the central mosques in western european cities are fed up with the utterly unsustainable incoming migrant streams that are now the sole population growth where I’m at

Oh the irony . Everybody will be a racist at some point. Except for Lou.
Hello Harmon,
I am a great believer in the mediation of the general and the particular.
A kind of indispensable ‘dialectical tool’ to better understand the world, yourself and the people in it. In this, the mediated and possibly participatory observation of the ‘traveller and world theory’ plays and was for me as a ‘paid image traveller and mediator of theory and practice’ a prerequisite anywhere in the world.
I remember being violently disappointed as a child that Karl May had foolishly never been to cowboy country but had stupidly concocted everything from the Heimat and even from ‘prison’. That made me extremely ‘suspicious’. Apparently, you can pretend from your imagination and intellectual concepts that you are or have been somewhere.
Later, I experienced very much! that ‘intellectual travellers’ if they were and got beyond their conference centres and five-star hotels and what goes with them in terms of ‘wild west scenes in piano bars’ were mainly busy confirming what supported their ‘theories’. But don’t mind each his own journey
Well here goes….wie de schoen past trekke hem aan… 🙂
“The scientists told us that, despite it certainly feeling as if events had taken a frightening turn, the global heating seen to date was entirely in line with three decades of scientific predictions.”
Mann and other on-message scientists have been at pains to emphasise this reassuring point of late and yet the article also describes the “off-the-charts sea temperatures” as shocking them, so it would seem that 71% of the planet is not behaving in line with predictions.
The article also works hard to attribute the current spike in temps to El Nino and natural variability, with Mann flatly denying that it could be evidence of a tipping point – an assessment neither he nor anyone else is qualified to make, as a tipping point will only be clearly discernible in retrospect. Nary a mention of the critical Earth Energy Imbalance either.
Dr. Mann has become a climate change denier. Its a wild world.
“Everybody will be a racist at some point. Except for Lou.”
My goodness Harmon, you really know how to cut to the quick. And it hurts all the more because deep down, I know that it is true. No matter what I do, there remains a deep abiding kernel of empathy and (dare I say it) decency that some others simply do not have. I think you will be surprised at how many people are like me – if you cared to look around.
Regarding the idea that there are too many dark skinned people in Europe:
https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/italys-meloni-slams-macrons-france-for-exploiting-african-ch
More-or-less the same thing is happening in the US. The US exploits, and sanctions countries to our south and then our brilliant leaders wonder why they come north. Once the refugees (political or economic) are here, the abuse continues when corporations hire them at slave wages, and use them to push down wages generally.
From the perspective of someone like Harmon, its a win-win. People get exploited in their home country thus enriching the already rich Europeans, then those people try to escape the abuse and end up working for slave wages to enrich different, but already rich Europeans. If only they didn’t have that awful dark skin it would be perfect. Right buddy?
Hi Lou, (pintada)
Meloni is proof that ‘populist’ government changes really mean nothing. The wings haven’t even changed. I wrote an extensive article on her attack on Macron and the Macronie as exploiters in Niger. Forgetting for a moment their own frivolous ‘colonial history’ in Abyssinia and their Libya stance apparently. Well at least ‘the French’ are being ‘chased’ out of their former colonies in the Sahel everywhere Now it is Niger’s turn and where until recently the militia putches were ended by French intervention I must see if the same will happen here. Doesn’t matter much by the way…. the French uranium interests have long since been siphoned off and for the rest it is a lost ‘mess over there’ anyway, just a little more Wagner and the Chinese to plunder away the last remnants and then it will be nice and quiet again over there in the Sahel…. 🙂 They will come to Europe anyway whether they hate their former colonists or not. I believe the average age in Niger is something like 16 years +.
And there, as everywhere else, the rule is he who has the youth has the future 😉

In the end it will not matter what party you are part or what you believe the extinction is taking place and all of the fantasy of the 6th industrial revolution will not happen. The woke people never talk about collapse of industrial civilization they do not want the party to end or their way of life as this empire collapses every single day. The left and right are trying to make a buck til the very end and in the end their money and homes will disappear too. These wars and droughts which is part of the mass migrations are taking place have gotten worse but then they do not talk drought or wars which I know many are sick of all of them. Yes we do have a population problem as in the end it is also collapsing like every other animal on this planet going extinct like the salmon.
I can’t really disagree with you, unfortunately, Dust in the Wind… and now I have to link to that song because it is totally stuck in my head. 😂

There are lyrics that have been stuck in my head since 1974.
“Just remember this, my girl, when you look up in the sky
You can see the stars and still not see the light (that’s right)”
“So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains
And we never even know we have the key”.
I think this is one of the greatest lines ever written. Let’s not forget: “It’s not my fault.” & all it’s variations.

Hello Pan
A word about those ‘ski slopes’ quite a trivial detail in the big picture but still.
I live in one of those ski resorts the Mezenc (nearby) where the number of snow days has dropped by 40% in the 20 years I’ve lived there. Kind of dickish slopes for families from the area, but cosy nonetheless. The farmers’ ski lifts look rusty and the Les Estables ski centre is hardly in operation anymore either. Well is that bad from the ‘ski perspective’. Actually hardly….if that’s the worst of the climate change….big deal. 🙂 Then we will just organise other ‘sporting holidays’ on mountain bikes, paragliding, ballooning and you name it.
That way, we won’t scare humanity 🙂 After all, we scare ‘nothing’.
Ugo Bardi did write a nice piece about it from his mountain resort in Abruzzo or so.
