Since November the CO2 readings have been above the average, with today’s @ 3.87ppm’s above last year’s. That’s to be expected when the world’s largest economy builds a sham green infrastructure whilst simultaneously producing 13 mln bbl’s of oil/day.
Both of these scenarios entails burning ever-increasing amounts of fossil fuels to produce continually DEcreasing amounts of energy. As the fracturing of the North American craton escalated, pundits likened the dynamic to Lewis Carrol’s Red Queen running to stay in the same place: wells went into depletion so quickly, new wells needed to be drilled to replace the dwindling output from those drilled as little as 18 months ago. But in terms of the amount of energy produced, the scenario is worse than the red Queen, because the percentage of that extracted energy that needs to be burned to produce the same amount of fossil fuels keeps creeping up with every year fracturing continues (and, like “replacing” gasoline with ethanol, the product produced has less energy-density than that which it purports to be a substitute for).
So Emit magazine’s statement our host was so kind to share with us flies in the face of reality so blatantly it is nothing short of cruel.
