Dear readers and, especially, subscribers, my sincere apologies – I am having some dental issues and am going to have to book myself in for an emergency appointment tomorrow. I will therefore be unable to put out an Economic thread for Wednesday 19th July.
Thank you all so much for your patience and support, both moral and financial. I’ll be back with a Climate thread on Thursday; that seems to be the primary locus of drama right now. If something huge happens economically in the meantime, I’ll do my best to at least post a lead article.
I hope it goes well
Something from the ‘Far Side’ sector to cheer you up.
Pan sits in somber silence in the dentist chair, adjusting the safety glasses handed him.
‘Hello,I noticed you didn’t make a post in this mornings thread. Been spending too much time reading FE comments on OFW again?
The Dentist fix’s the overhead light, and positions themselves “Now, Let’s take wee a look shell we?
Pan opens up.
“ I know it’s hard with so much edge of your seat stuff happening our days, You’ll get told by someone, so it might as well be me,
No more lollie binges while the world implodes!
“No more lollie binges while the world implodes!”
No more lollie binges for me full stop. I am a pig when it comes to the dark chocolate though, with all its helpful antioxidants…
Going to the dentist couldn’t be as bad as reading our comments. 😉
😂
Ah. Was wondering. Best of luck with the dentist!
Thank you, all for the comments and well wishes. I am a martyr to periodontitis, alas.
Given the time difference, I suppose it is all over by now. I think I should say that I hope it all went well.
Have you tried a product like this one? My roommate swears by it:

I have not submitted to a cleaning by a dental hygienist for several decades. My theory is that they kill all the bacteria in your mouth including the good ones, and then bad bacteria take over.
Thanks, Lou. Unfortunately, periodontitis is an auto-immune condition where the body’s immune system attacks its own inflamed gums. There’s no cure and it is progressive. I just have to be obsessive about oral hygiene and stay on top of it. Sometimes I’ll get a flare up and need antibiotics, saline injections and such. It’s not ideal but there are worse afflictions. Those pro-biotics may be worth a whirl.
My dear Panopticon;
As you well know, I offer opinions without regard to whether it is appropriate or not and whether I know anything about the subject or not. (Thanks again for being patient with me.). In this case, for what it is worth, I can say for certain that:
1. I wish you only the best, and my inappropriate meddling comes from those wishes!
2. Paula and I did careful due diligence regarding those probiotic tablets and she took them only after we determined that:
a. they will do no harm
b. that brand has all of the species of bacteria that appear in the literature as beneficial
c. that brand provides a lot of colony forming units
3. Her (admittedly mild case of) periodontitis was greatly improved without professional intervention.
Feel better,
Louise
Thanks, Louise, and don’t worry – your advice was taken in the spirit intended!
Hahaha, funny images. You will get better soon!
Sometimes our health can be far more important than world imploding worries. Lol
For this situation I’ve tried brushing with a little bit of the good old baking soda, straight on the brush, then leaving it in, rinsing round as a slurry for a few minutes. Seems to be of benefit. Feels very clean and you can experience deep penetration into those reclusive little nasty pockets.
Believe Dr Berg on youtube recommends it. Makes a sort of peroxide,
Is about pH 8.0 and therefore keeps things nice and alkaline, preventing biofilms forming altogether.
Thank you for the tip, Bobby. I shall look into it!
