With the permission of Panopticon and Cassandra I would like to post what I consider interesting points in the war in Ukraine.  I will try to limit my comments here to things that are happening, or have actually happened, and I will try to not cheerlead for either side.  The economic effects of the war are and will continue to be obvious, and large, so this seems a reasonable forum in which to track the war.

First update:

The interesting thing going on now is the promise by NATO to send German Leopards and American Abrams tanks to Ukraine.  As far as I can tell:

1.  The tanks will either arrive no earlier than the fall of 2023, or will arrive soon but will be manned and supported by NATO/US crews.

2.  The numbers of tanks promised will not change anything.  (Well, except for the people that will be killed by the tanks, and the people killed when the tanks are eventually destroyed.)

Larry Johnson sums it up well.  If you have the time and inclination, the  comments under this post are generally astute, and reflect several different opinions on the efficacy of the tanks.  Larry references a good post by Brian Berletic, so I wont post that.

The military summary was posted early today.  Dima reported:

1.  Progress by the Russians regular army toward the town of Vuhledar - so several square kilometers captured.

2.  Progress by the Wagner group in solidifying their hold on Solidar and encirclement of Bakhmut, but no real change on that front or any of the others.

3.  Its lights out again and some oil depots also struck by missiles.

4.  The RF MOD reported the destruction of 10 ordinary Soviet and European howitzer systems and 4 M777s.

I misspoke about the tank delivery timing in the previous post.  I said:

“The tanks will either arrive no earlier than the fall of 2023” but should have said:

The Abrams tanks will either arrive no earlier than the fall of 2023 and the Leapords might be delivered by the end of March.

Pintada, by all means post away. As long as the discourse is civil, I do not have a problem with it.

You will forgive me if I do not personally participate in the thread though. The subject is divisive to the point where I would want my contributions to be fantastically well researched and balanced, and I simply do not have the time to do that. There are only so many rabbit holes my waning intellect can cope with!

Yes, sir.  The subject is a little controversial 🙄.  I am not wedded to either side though so things should not get ugly and certainly not demand intervention.  O‘course I been wrong afore.
