“The ocean has shielded us from the worst of climate change. Now it is running a fever.
“The ocean is running a fever. In 2025, the number of days of marine heatwaves – prolonged spells when the sea turns abnormally, dangerously warm – was more than triple what it was in the early 1990s. These are not abstract statistics.”

You can read the previous “Climate” thread here. I’ll be back on Monday with an “Economic” thread.

“Why the human brain can’t fathom what it means to be a trillionaire.”
https://tinyurl.com/2ujnuya4
No wonder people can’t understand our debt levels! More appropriate to a economic thread but it all blurs together now.
“…purely intuitively but entirely incorrectly, many people estimate the leap from a million to a billion to be just as big as the leap from a billion to a trillion… however, the jumps from one million to one billion to one trillion are exponential: if you are a millionaire, you have to earn another 999 million to become a billionaire. But once you’re a billionaire, you need to amass another 999,999 million to become a trillionaire.”
Flippr, my human brain can also not fathom the level of ego that can imagine it is “worth” such a sum relative to other people.
“This will probably load the dice toward more high precipitation extremes across the planet. A warmer atmosphere is a moister atmosphere.”
So our options are:
1> Warm and moist
2> Cold and moist
The earth has turned into my personal climatic hell!
And the poor cats in South America 🙁
Truth Wizard, not just cats, unfortunately:
“Now, researchers have also found the fungus in the internal organs of wild animals, including mammals, birds, and reptiles… “It’s just a matter of time [for the fungus to reach the US]. We’re waiting,” Dr Lockhart said.”

Jupiviv, Ben Noll goes on to say, “That doesn’t mean that there won’t be dryness and drought. Atmospheric circulation patterns driven by El Niño will cause low precipitation in several regions, too.”
So, you may get lucky. 😅
Ben Noll also points out in the third entry down that, “A new Kelvin wave is forming… El Niño forecasts may trend even stronger.”
Possibly the most alarming sentence in the thread.

Yet the trillionaires, those with all the power and money, only worry about bond yield volatility, the only volatility our governments actually takes seriously enough to try and control.
DOGE: Despotic Oligarchs’ Governmental Evisceration.

I randomly came across this video the other day; less cerebral than Prof Battisti’s but still worth a watch:

Good one, Pan!
Central Texas @12:51pm 94F, 65% humidity, calm winds, feels like =114F
Sounds unbearably steamy, TG.
94% humidity here on Islay with minimal wind but only 57F, so not too bad. The midges are out though – it’s perfect weather for them.
I feel like i am stuck in bad cartoon today. The villains are so bad the colors are warped due to the heat. I am not sure how the us thinks it can keep this going by covering up all the internal issues with the economy and environment. The corruption is coming out full with a full monety party. All the oil issues will get worse as those on the left believe that green energy will save is but ignore the big water issues and heat index.
A bad cartoon… Heather, that is a good way of putting it. I often think this era has a surreal, even psychedelic feel to it… Although the latter could be a hangover from my misspent youth. 😂
