Brutal headlines.
Sure, ban the advertising. Please ban the advertising.
But don’t do anything real, or even approaching real. We have so, so much time to do these little dances of Nothing Theater while profits for Gigantor Corps mount and the world burns.
Lawsuits, sure – we’ve got decades for the wholly-owned subsidiary of Gigantor Corps, the legal system, to deny, obfuscate, intimidate, refuse, etc., as is its long-maintained specialty.
Oh, and keep giving speeches. And, yes yes yes, keep up with the oil-soaked corporate consensus censorship COPs.
“Resilience” and “Sustainability” are but one or two more wishes and hopium injections away from turning the tide!
Kind of reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Springfield is threatened by a comet. At the end, after their near miss, the Springfield townspeople band together to burn down the observatory, so “it will never happen again”.
There’s a similar logical disconnect here, as if rendering fossil fuels less visible will somehow make them go away.
Perhaps against your wishes, Martin, your acid comments DO help people, or at least me!
Besides, their “It’s not my fault.” motto, I’m sure the the baboon brains will be glad to, “don’t do anything real,”.
Zimbabwe should be culling humans not elephants.
Humans be culling themselves.
The elephants should be moving north, I hear the Sahara is beautiful this time of year.
Mother Nature is doing an excellent job with culling. We’re not at that point quite yet, though close enough, where we are forced to commit humans to involuntary euthanasia. Were we sufficiently empathetic, and we’re not, there would be euthanasia w/ dignity centers springing up everywhere accompanied by sophisticated cadaver remediation technology fueled by 100% green energy, ha ha ha.
Sky, welcome to the site – I think this is your first comment.
We, certainly in the West, have such a dysfunctional relationship with death. I would imagine, if nothing else, the inaffordability of caring for our sick and elderly, as we move into tougher times economically, will force more debate on euthanasia.
British citizens currently have to go to outlandish lengths to check out:
“A former RAF engineer and his retired nurse wife have signed up to become the first British couple to use a double suicide pod. Peter and Christine Scott made the decision after she was recently diagnosed with early-stage vascular dementia.”
https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/british-couple-double-suicide-capsule-clinic-peter-christine-scott-switzerland-b1180750.html
As for involuntary euthanasia, I guess we are seeing the first stirrings of that in the West where, at the margins, the “cost of living” crisis is a “cost of not dying before your time” crisis. Cancelled winter fuel payments for the elderly here in the UK are grist to that mill.
“Zimbabwe had “more elephants than it needed”, the environment minister said.”
Dale, my first thought was that the elephants would surely be of the opinion that Zimbabwe has more humans than it needs, as they outnumber elephants approximately 17 million to 100,000.
Elephants as vertebrate mammals aren’t immune to the laws of nature.
If they would stand up & walk on two feet like us brilliant primates, they would live forever. AGW, weather weirding, & irreversible tipping points will take care of the complete culling.
What we have willing done to other animals on this rock is good evidence that we deserve what horrors we get.

It is starting over Antarctica in August and running through to late December (near record durations).
Intense ozone hole depth…
Ozone depletion has reached record levels, letting record high amounts of uv to hit the planet below.

Climate protesters are taking action against Big Oil. UK courts are handing them prison terms akin to rapists and thieves

Big Oil’s donations to the UK government
Big Oil has poured money into think tanks and charities that have had an influence on climate and protest laws. At least two think tanks that have received funding from fossil fuel companies made campaign donations to the ministers overseeing the legislation. One — the right-wing Policy Exchange — drafted a report that essentially served as a blueprint for one of the laws.
It don’t look pretty
The plot thickens..
https://eia-international.org/news/illegal-smuggling-of-refrigerant-gases-into-europe-continues-as-the-climate-crisis-worsens/
Illegal climate-wrecking super-pollutant refrigerant gases are still being smuggled into Europe, EIA’s latest research shows
Five years after our Climate team first revealed a widespread European illegal trade in hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) climate gases, a new investigation has revealed that significant levels of trafficking persist despite the worsening climate emergency.
And the evidence suggests that black market traders and traffickers are becoming more sophisticated and adapting their tactics to evade detection.
……Ultimately, the illegal trade in HFCs is fueled by ongoing demand for the gases, primarily used in the cooling sector, and there is an urgent need to find better ways to keep cool
To keep cool..that’s a good one…I live here in South Florida and every day is a heat advisory to stay indoors in air conditioning if one can…feels like 108 F and above…never mind record nighttime temperatures…sure thing..find better ways…I have an idea dig a deep hole and lay in it, because that’s where we’re headed
Thanks, Vince. The “Montreal Protocol” to save the ozone layer is often touted as evidence of our collective ability to tackle systemic threats.
Unfortunately, banning ozone-damaging CFC’s just encouraged their substitution with HFC’s, which have ridiculously potent warming potential. As your second article notes, the 2016 “Kigali Amendment” to the “Montreal Protocol” stipulated that HFC’s be phased out – but substitutes for HFC’s, like butane or ammonia, add additional expense for manufacturers and consumers.
So, here we are, with super-warming HFC’s being smuggled and still widely used; ozone-damaging CFC concentrations in the atmosphere rapidly increasing again from sources unknown, and the ozone hole worse than ever – evidence only of our collective ability to create “solutions” that just metastasize into a whole new set of problems.
Why do I feel like someone who just slid off of a cliff?
That sickening horror as you realize you are about to fall to your death.
Someone on reddit pointed to an article that suggests the South Sudan may be the first (formerly) heavily populated place on Earth to be rendered uninhabitable by the climate catastrophe due to larger and more persistent floods from Lake Victoria.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced, millions if you include people fleeing war.
Their homes and farms are becoming permanent wetlands.
Wetlands are the primary source of methane in the Earth system.
Don’t miss the picture of a “displaced persons” camp. A neat grid of one hundred thousand people completely surrounded by water as far as the eye can see. A mere few feet of earthen berm the only thing keeping them alive.
Jerry, I posted a good article about this the other day:
‘My land is a river now’: South Sudan’s glimpse into an apocalyptic future… Bentiu camp is an apocalyptic vision of vulnerable families in shelters besieged by nature. The surrounding Unity State is nearly the size of the Netherlands and is estimated to be 90 per cent flooded after unusually heavy rainy seasons.
“…the camp of 140,000 remains an island, stopped from being overwhelmed only by 40 miles of mud dykes and round-the-clock pumping.”
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/climate-and-people/south-sudan-floods-climate-change/
South Sudan’s woes have been compounded by damage to a key oil pipeline in neighbouring, war-torn Sudan, which was crucial for transporting their oil abroad. That oil accounted for 90% of their GDP.
Everyday feels like we getting closer to the hell we produced from driving our cars, polluting the water and air and destroying our planet. Everyday i see more infrastructure collapse just in my own neighborhood the concrete is collapsing along with roads and storm water drainage. Most people i talk to are living in this bubble and it will be a complete nightmare when it comes and everything is gone.
Heather, I am fervently hoping that the wet and stormy winter mentioned in the thread does not materialise here in the UK. Our infrastructure is likewise creaking, from potholes in the roads to ferry problems.
Plus we are already staring down the barrel of another jump in food inflation after last winter.
“New analysis indicates that Britain is likely facing one of its poorest harvests on record, following unprecedented rainfall last winter that has severely impacted yields.”
https://www.thescottishfarmer.co.uk/news/24580202.england-wheat-harvest-drops-18-record-rainfall/
Some would say our situation is sad & depressing. I think it’s entertaining,
demanding everything that one desires & thinks it’s entitled to, regardless of the destruction of the habitat. Hope I live long enough to see the rich & affluent watch their entitlement disappear before their eyes. All the masses of broke asses get the same consequences.
More fun with Sudan. From the Beeb:
“Thousands of people have died and 10 million have been forced to flee their homes since April last year, when Sudan was thrown into disarray after its army and a powerful paramilitary group began a vicious struggle for power.”
Now the floods.
What hell is this?
What a lovely little planet we once had!
One of the astronauts on the ISS said the things that are missed the most are the feelings you get being outside on Earth. The wind in your hair. The rain on your face.
I wonder if that’s what it’s like being dead? You regret all the time you didn’t love being alive.
8 billion pro-creative destructive fools makes me regret being alive. Not for me to worry, their AGW will take care of me being alive. Genocidal suicide?
Libya’s 4500 deaths hardly peaks the interest of the rest of the global population.
We need a loss of tens of thousands, suddenly, for this species to get any credit for it’s detrimental tendencies.
Re the assassination attempt on Trump in Florida, my wife just said nonchalantly; “The third time’s a charm.” 😉
An addition to the prime directives list: Be careful who you piss- off.
