Disturbing. Just when I think things cant get worse, the ol’, “faster than expected” reemerges. How much more scared could we be.
Not to scare you further, EMJ – courage, mon brave, as my father used to say – but Zeke Hausfather’s latest admits that we are in uncharted territory:
“Unfortunately we still lack a good explanation for what drove the exceptional warmth the world saw in 2023 and 2024… Many of us hoped that if 2024 returned to a more predictable post-El-Nino regime it would provide evidence that what happened in the second half of 2023 was a blip – some short lived internal variability that drove a spike in global temperatures but did not persist.
“However, with temperatures remaining elevated into September 2024, its looking increasingly less likely that last year’s elevated temperatures were a mostly transient phenomenon. Rather, some combination of forcings or changes in feedbacks may be driving higher global temperatures going forward.”

As privately mentioned Harry, Yagi! Now on your platform, Louisiana mmmm.
Enough of the slow motion car wreck please, it’s torturous.
Sean, yes, Yagi turned out to be quite a story(!) – one of those storms that sticks out in the memory like Haiyan, Jebi, Daniel or Harvey.
Thank you for the article re Antarctica. Prof Eliot Jacobson has already called it as not quite reaching last year’s low but this article is saying the jury is still out. Either way, it is concerning.
Meanwhile, we are not far off record lows in the Arctic, and Zack Labe is reporting that August saw an accelerated loss of sea ice volume there.
“Enough of the slow motion car wreck please, it’s torturous.”
I’m open to suggestions on how to make it worse, faster.
I taking all of them with me when I fall. That’ll teach them to start something that I have to finish. 😉
Jordan peterson even having anyone listen to his nonsense reveals just how brainwashed our society is. And it gets worse each and every day. And “they” say we doomers are crazy. Good grief.
yep. especially in the united states, on a broad social/political movement basis, sanity and reality are virtually extinct. the green party platform is pretty good, but even at the stroke-of-doom they probably won’t break 5% of the vote.
I used to be a reluctant admirer of Jordan Peterson, as he could be fascinating within his area of expertise, and a fearsome orator/debater to boot.
But with that brilliance came a volatile, highly strung temperament… I fear his rodeo with Xanax a few years ago was enough to tip him over the edge, and he’s seemed pretty batshit to me since then.
I watched “Dr. Strangelove” last night in memory of the indefatigable James Earl Jones.
What a fantastic metaphor! It could not possibly be any more timely now, a full 60 years later.
The world ends, not because of manifest evil, no.
No, we bluster and bumble our way through a tragedy that is utterly beyond our control.
Finally, in shock and horror, giving up and whimpering about maybe the, um, you know… The mineshafts.
And then there’s the immortal Peter Sellers.
“Mein Furor! I can walk!?!”
I love that movie! Brilliant.
absolutely spot on. kubrick nails it almost every time. Full Metal Jacket is still probably the best war movie of all time in terms of the actual psychology of modern “warfare”
I need to re-watch ‘Dr. Strangelove’. RIP, James Earl Jones and his wonderfully deep, mellifluous tones.
‘Full Metal Jacket’ was great. ‘Platoon’ and ‘Hamburger Hill’ were also terrific Vietnam War movies from the late 80’s… ‘Good Morning, Vietnam’, too, although I don’t know if that is strictly a war movie.
General reply to today’s C&E comments – what the fuck?
The US Greens are not within muffled whimpering distance of 2%, let alone this fantasy 5%. The party has been killed by everyone-.Dems, Nazis, themselves.
Jordan Peterson’s name belongs only in a vomitorium.
“Mein Furor” -.is that the right spalling?
Mein Führer
I going to catch the highlights after the meeting.
Bet in the Harris/Trump conversation, not a debate, neither will offer a solution to pay off $35T U.S. debt with only around $2T in currency. Watch them talk about all the programs they have in mind with no realistic mention of how to pay for them. We might hear climate change once but never hear overpopulation in relation to overshoot of this planet’s resources. One can’t print food, potable water, clean air or unpolluted earth.
This is not about politics, it’s about stupid politicians & stupid voters. There are plenty of examples like this in every country? Stupids continuing down the path of destruction.
