“Warning of a forthcoming collapse of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation…
“The Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) is a major tipping element in the climate system and a future collapse would have severe impacts on the climate in the North Atlantic region… We estimate a collapse of the AMOC to occur around mid-century under the current scenario of future emissions.”

“Just attending a 3-day workshop on the danger of abrupt ocean circulation changes. Discussions are quite worrying. E.g. in 35 to 45 % of high quality models, convection in the open North Atlantic collapses in the 2030s due to global heating. -> Major climate disruption.”

The US economy is on the verge of an extremely rare achievement.
Economic growth in the first half of the year was solid, with the economy expanding a robust 2.8% annualized rate in the second quarter, according to fresh Commerce Department figures released Thursday, which are adjusted for inflation and seasonal swings.
Stocks surged in the morning after the economy’s powerful show of resilience
We must have a cost/benefit frame of reference as an associate of Willard Watts of the website “Watts Up With That”, kept repeating to me in our 13,000 comment exchange in the Rolling Stone article Global Warmings Terrifying New Math . That was a long time ago and I imagine Evan Jones, if still alive, is still contesting the same today
Damn you are brave, trying to reason with such people!!!
Side note: please consider posting comments with link to one of Panopticon’s daily climate threads on McPherson’s channel and/or elsewhere that is relevant. P is trying to attract more readers. Thanks for consideration!
I am friends with Guy and sent him a climate and an economy post to his email. He said he knew about the “blog” and was not interested in reading any posts.
His interest is peer reviewed science. What we read here just proves what a few scientists have predicted, actually happening Now. Enjoy the rest of your time on Magnificent Planet Earth, we are well into the 6th mass extinction event. Happy, Peaceful Now
“I am friends with Guy and sent him a climate and an economy post to his email.”
Thank you for the networking assistance, Amira. ❤
I’ve followed Guy & his reports on peer reviewed studies for years. It’s easy to report the problems. It’s even easier to not mention the biggest problem. I won’t say it, because 8 billion baboon brained, monkey minds can’t handle the truth. One problem I see is that syentysts are as much in denial as the masses of the ignorant. Can’t wait to see how their hypocritical (as in not stating the truth & nothing but the truth) education is going to save their brilliant minds & those they love from their denial of CAGW (Clever Ape Global Warming).
What happens to a species when it creates to many of it’s special self? We are finding out. While CAGW is causing horrible physical suffering, I’ll do what I can to cause as much emotional irritation, because this species deserves it. How many pregnancies are there in the world that will lead to unnecessary suffering of infants & young children in the near future.
I’m moving away from the saying; “It’s not my fault.” to “Fuck’em!”, seems to be the mind set of this species. I didn’t know that a whole species could have the same psychotic break at the same time.
My newest personal motto; “That’s right! We bad,we bad.” 😉
Note that 20 years exactly corresponds with the growth of hydraulic fracturing, 1’st in the US, followed by Russia (right on the doorstep of the Arctic, which subsequently went, in the space of less than a decade, from warming 2’ce as fast to warming 4X’s (conservatively) faster than the rest of the planet).
In 2005, Halliburton, setting the template Melonhead Musk would adopt, siphoned the enormous resources the Bush/Cheney junta was funneling to it via non-compete contracts to supply the Iraqi invasion, started drilling in North Dakota’s Bakken, with spectacular results.
But no oil comes without methane. And that enormous cloud of methane was billowing from the Bakken in such stupendous quantities that even with flaring (flaring BURNS methane, creating CO2 and water vapor) increasing to such an extent that the US soon enough knocked the Russians from their perch as the most egregious of violators of flaring standards. The rise in methane is from the methane that DOESN’T get flared, but seeps unburnt from the fractured earth and the flaring towers.
Prior to 2005, the US was panicking over its natural gas deficit, with prices soaring above $8/cb, now less than $2, with an LNG industry that is still growing, even as the presidential candidates debate its continued expansion. Before 2014, there was no such industry in the US, today it rivals the largest of the LNG exporters in the world.
Without hydraulic fracturing, that $35 Trln US deficit you posted in yesterday’s listing could not be serviced.
Just as the FED enabled the 2008 financial crash, the reliance on fracturing by two of three the Petro States that supply a full third of the world’s oil supply, the unspoken, but, (just as prior to 2008) fully recognized dependence on a calamitous outcome to enable current prosperity for a dwindling percentage of humanity, the increase in methane emissions ( with growing contributions from the host this year’s Keystone COP conferences, Azerbaijan) is still to continue.
All the blather about the energy transition is exactly that, as the utter silence on the continued fracturing of the earth’s crust even in the face of the earthquakes it is causing in the Permian as they desperately step up the pace of drilling to stave off the inevitable slide down the wrong side of Hubbert’s peak, illustrates.
So it’s not “made the job of tackling anthropogenic warming all the more challenging”, it’s made even mentioning the cause of its escalation (climate scientists have cautioned that the increase in methane emissions adds a .5 degree of warming/decade, offering a complete picture as to why in the last 2 decades the rate of warming has gone off the charts, as those charts didn’t include such an increase, yet such a correlation is never made … in any of the 20 years of fracturing and flaring on an unprecedented scale.
Yes yes yes, Rob! I keep screaming in my head when I read about various politicians’ (both sides) plans for more fracking. The good stuff is gone, guys! And everything you outlined so well, Rob
Thank you, Kali, energy companies wish to fracture both the English and Dutch countryside’s as well; for the moment forestalled, but methinks the forces of a fractured future will eventually prevail.
It is indeed a strange fate we have bequeathed ourselves:
2https://robertlowrey.blogspot.com/2020/05/strange-fate.html
Rob, I did wonder if you would spot that article when I posted it. This one looks more specifically at US emissions:
“US oil and gas facilities are pumping out four times more planet-warming methane gas than estimated by regulators, according to research underscoring the gulf between reality and compliance with new environmental rules.
“Data published by the Environmental Defense Fund on Wednesday estimates leaks, flaring and venting of methane at US onshore oil and gas operations at 7.5mn tonnes per year — enough wasted gas to meet the annual energy needs of more than half of American homes.”

Will do, Kali, that’s a capital idea and Harry already was present on Gails OFW blog, which is definitely not AGW friendly. I no longer post there myself for obvious reasons. Peak Oil News is another too, but it’s a shadow of it’s former self.
Yes, that was an intense exchange Evan and myself undertook. Doubt RS saved any of them, but it provided me an exercise of the futility of communication. Has the New Testament changed human spiritual relationships on the whole?
So, as the Honest Sorcerer just posted in length that it won’t likely to occur…largely due to the population levels and diversity, we can sit in our circle and use blogs like this as an outlet to let off some steam
Gail believes that climate change is a ‘conspiracy’?
Yet believes in the biggest conspiracy of all: Christianity?
Yeah, folks moving to higher ground… Sort of begs the question, what happens when you run out of “higher” ground?
Here in Juneau we have plenty of higher ground, mountains of it, but good luck building anything on it. Maybe tree-houses. If they don’t burn down. Or crushed by avalanches.
Meanwhile the billions and billions of dollars of stuff we’ve spent decades building out, mostly for the exclusive use of people in cars, well, guess what? Most of it was built on either tide-flats or flood-plains.
The main N/S highway was built directly on top of a tide-flat. A mere few feet of earthen berm between a major artery and the salty brine of Gastineau Channel. Same thing with the airport.
We could move the whole thing out to Mendenhall Valley. You know, that place where stuff routinely gets wiped-out by glacial lake outbursts. Shame that, the whole Juneau Icefield melting away…
Yeah, “higher ground”. Good luck with that.
After you and I are done with crying for today, perhaps we should have a good laugh at the folly of humankind, Jerry.
“Most of it was built on either tide-flats or flood-plains.”
Tsunamis are apparently a risk, Jerry:
“The biggest threats to Juneau will come with no warning, according to Tom Mattice, Juneau’s emergency programs manager. We recognize here in the city that our greatest threat is from a localized tsunami. That’s going to be a no-notification event,” Mattice said…
“The offshore tsunami map shows up to 16 feet of flooding around much of Gastineau Channel. The inshore tsunami map predicts up to 50 feet of flooding along the channel.”
https://www.ktoo.org/2018/01/27/no-warning-system-risks-localized-tsunami-juneau/
Go to YouTube & search sinking cities videos. Pumping water out of aquifers with a few lbs’ of concrete & asphalt & all the trappings built over them, might not be the wisest thing one can do.
Cities might not sink as fast if the fat morbidly obese would lose weight. Think how much smaller cities would be if some individuals were much smaller. When I have to grocery shop, I’m always afraid I’ll fall into a sinkhole with all the very healthy? shoppers. I can talk about the fatties. I was only one soda & a candy bar away from 300 lbs.
Having this much fun with sarcasm in the end times should be illegal.;-)
Seems already as of August 1st, July 2024 has smashed numerous records monthly heat averages, daily heat averages, daily and monthly rainfalls, etc etc etc… the acceleration is really picking up, almost palpable now!
P.S. Thank you for mentioning the plight of the nomadic Yup’ik tribes having to leave Newtok, Alaska. These communities (such as “Tuk” in Canada as well) so often bear the brunt of abrupt climate change while contributing next to nothing to it.
Justin, my apologies – your comment was stuck in moderation, and you are welcome.
