Such fun with semantics. We’ve averaged 1.63C above the fudged pre-industrial baseline for a year and yet we haven’t crossed the 1.5C threshold according to the IPCC. They need to see 1.5C exceeded over a twenty-year average before they will call it, according to the Paris agreement.
In practice this will mean observed temps dramatically in excess of 1.5C before the IPCC is finally prepared to admit we’ve breached the threshold. I’m sure this will do wonders for their credibility.
All those cows enslaved to provide capitalists’ profits, remind me of the Corona virus lockdowns. Industrialized cruelty is like the resemblance of Pan’s logo to Jenga, we just don’t see it.

I really need to look up a paper that was published a few years ago.
It was a wonky science paper about a study of ancient sediments, a particular extinction event that was comparable to the catastrophe that us hairless chattering monkeys have unleashed.
It painted a horrifying picture of the kinds of planetary changes we can expect in the decades ahead.
They discovered a number of gigantic “alluvial fans” around the world. They pieced together a plausible explanation.
– In the distant past a hothouse event unfolded, probably due to an increase in greenhouse gasses, IIRC.
– The forests burned. All of them.
– It started raining. Hard. REALLY hard.
– All the newly exposed topsoil washed away. All of it.
– Crocodiles moved to the Arctic. Everywhere else was uninhabitable.

I was reading recently that the YouTube viral hit Despacito reached 5 billion views on YouTube just a few years ago. That expended enough energy on YouTube to power 40,000 U.S. homes for a single year.
It’s this behavior, this civilization, which is at risk. And yes, it is very much an apocalypse.
