Hello Pan.
Two storms Ciaran and Domingos and flooding in Pas de Calais….D
That will be insurance work as there are now 160,000 damage reports……The French government will come out with a comprehensive paper on ‘climate change, weather extremes and insurance’ next year. Indeed, the costs run into billions every year for companies, individuals and….. agriculture and livestock. In particular, the costs due to cracking of walls and houses due to ‘subsidence’ of the soil due to increasing droughts is running huge. We will see what they will pull out of the hat, how much the premiums will be and what the role of the state will be……
…… fallen trees, roofs ripped off… In western and northern France, damage from storms Ciaran and Domingo runs into the hundreds of thousands of claims . Bruno Le Maire stated that currently “120,000 claims” have been submitted to the various insurers. “There are undoubtedly many claims that have not yet been submitted because electricity has been cut off and phones have not yet been restored,” the minister warned. “We are going to get claims running into the hundreds of millions of euros.” The minister also sought to reassure citizens affected by the damage. “Insurers have pledged to compensate quickly, extend the deadline for submitting claims and everything is being done to support policyholders,” he said. During a trip to Brittany on, Macron promised to put the “natural disasters scheme ‘ into effect. That includes “for all places where there have been floods, there may be a natural disaster scheme”, the economy ministry confirmed. Le Maire also took the opportunity to call on insurers to “honour their commitments”. “Axa has made two commitments: that rates will rise less than the actual cost of claims and special rates will be offered to people in modest circumstances and young people under 30.”……

The Rate of Global Economic Growth Is Meaningless
As the world economy splinters, broad measures of its condition are becoming less relevant.
November 6, 2023 at 6:00 AM EST
By Tyler Cowen
Tyler Cowen is a Bloomberg Opinion columnist, a professor of economics at George Mason University and host of the Marginal Revolution blog.
Every now and then an economic concept must be gracefully retired. My latest nomination for this honor is the notion of a “global rate of economic growth.”
A meaningful definition of a global rate of economic growth requires that a fair number of countries, or at least a preponderance of global GDP, moves in the same direction at a broadly common and even intertwined rate. This idea once made sense, as often there were a few common factors — Chinese-driven growth, for example, or energy prices — that affected a large number of countries in similar ways. In the future, however, economic growth will increasingly come from idiosyncratic and nation-specific factors, not global ones.
Yep, we need a new language….and it’s coming if we like it or not..
Remember reading in a book, maybe Paul Hawkins Ecology of Commerce..long while ago…the Eskimo has about 20 terms for snow..
We will have that in a new way for wealth, rich and health
Right now it’s not in our radar
It is an interesting article but I am finding a lot to disagree with Tyler Cowen on, for example:
“The point is that the world economy is far less vulnerable to energy price shocks now than it used to be, and this trend will only continue with the rise of cheaper solar and wind power.”
And he totally fails to mention debt. Plus, given that the global economy is an integrated whole of which national economies are just localised expressions, having a metric that gauges overall growth is still somewhat useful IMO.
“… given that the global economy is an integrated whole of which national economies are just localised expressions,”
Great description!
Thanks, TR. I’m actually paraphrasing David Korowicz there and probably should have given him a hat-tip. He has been a significant influence on my thinking.
Nobody knows that NTHE will positively occur but there are those that think that that billions will die due to AGW. The fun part of this is that those that think mass deaths will happen think that it won’t happen to them.
A favorite line from the U.S. TV series” Hee Haw”: “That’s not stupid,it’s merely foolish.”
Some say that those that die with the most toys wins. Not if a winner can’t take the toys with them. Clever Apes came here with monkey minds, they will leave with baboon brains. 😉
