Oceans absorb 90% of the heat from climate change — here’s why record ocean temps are so harmful… “
““The warmer ocean that we are seeing now represents a ratcheting up of the climate change signal,” Benjamin Kirtman, professor of atmospheric sciences at the University of Miami, told CNBC. “This is consistent with a continued increase in extreme weather in the climate system, that is more heat waves and marine heat waves, droughts in already dry regions, floods in already wet areas, extreme winds, and fire.””

Well, now you’ve gone and finally done it, Pan-O.
We first-world avid readers of C&E can absorb and tolerate the vivid photos of third-world destruction and death no problem, as accustomed as we were as youngsters to scanning the pages of National Geographic for exotica photos from Africa.
But golf-ball sized hail wrecking the greens of a U.S. golf course? Are you kidding me? Declare a worldwide golf emergency right now, dammit! Build back better them greens, pronto! Use some child labor to deflect the hail if you have to, divert what’s left of the Colorado River to keep the short grass iridescent green, but remember this, the golf way of life is non-negotiable.
I can assure you Martin, they actually let me attend and graduate at said universities, my point was more about you spouting everyday blogger nonsense while accusing others of mindless groupthink, which is funny .
Rain , as far as the ozzie sports go, to quote you “What we call football, is actually two separate sports, both with big national professional league competitions. AFL or Australian Rules football which is the most popular nationwide, and has both mens and womens leagues, and Rugby League also very popular but mostly in the eastern states. Saturdays are AFL and Sundays are League. Coming up the Grand Finals .. and often the big stadium finals for each league is on the same weekend.”
I watched some of all that in my Australian year, and I loved the outlandishness of all of it . Being a boring european I will never really get it of course , I’ll stick to my spare sports following of cycling and BvB Dortmund.
The last comment yesterday was someone new that said the Argentinian frontrunner might be a rancid fascist . I’m just back from Argentina , and even though I’m culturally right wing myself, I agree with you on this one , he is a bit nuts this guy .
People on the streets seemed very anxious and defeatist about the upcoming elections, both in Buenos and in Salta , more of an outpost .
“People on the streets seemed very anxious and defeatist about the upcoming elections…”
Harmon, I’m sure. Having had just a taste of rising interest rates and aggressive inflation, it is hard to imagine how ordinary, long suffering Argentinians manage at all, let alone have any faith in a political solution.
I swear buenos Aires was a weird experience . I had been to south america before but never to that place , and you see all the wealth and possibilities from ages past , especially around 1920 or so when argentina could’ve taken the world
But now.. for all the much wealthier sights compared to what I saw ages ago in Colombia or Venezuela, people were so cynical about the elections .
For example the candidates weren’t even known when I arrived there late June.. imagine that.. they were all giggly but with very black humor, gallows humor
“… the golf way of life is non-negotiable.” Apparently, so.

A huge scandal in Arizona as the Colorado river dries up. No corruption here. It was done under different officials but okay who knows what the Saudi s gave officials for payoffs?
Thanks, Heather. That’s an interesting read. This para caught my eye:
“Local anger is reaching a boiling point, warned Steve Hilsz, a former telephone repairman. As more and more people find their wells drying up, he said, “we’re going to have civil war out here.””
“For nearly a decade,” tells me all I need to know about the people of AZ. & their relationship with stupidity.
If ignorance is bliss, that’s a happy state.
Argentina… ^sigh^. I recall some years ago, some Nobel Prize winner in economics making a comment along the lines of, that the main questions remaining that nobody can answer are “Why Japan has done so well, but Argentina hasn’t”.
As for their gallows humour, I have never been there, but have worked with, lived and socialised with many Argentinian immigrant folks. One fellow I worked with for some years always cracked me up with his wit.
The first work day after one of our elections that returned a conservative govt, after years of Labor, he came bouncing into work, with smiles of “well I voted for the winners!” I was puzzled, as in the lead-up I was sure he would have voted otherwise… to which he replied “In Argentina, you have to say you voted for the winner” 🙂
Like in Italy I found myself right at home there . Cynical but very funny street attitudes:d
