Justin. This is occurring now here on both sides of the continental US coast, one in San Francisco and the other in Miami, the Army of Corp of Engineers have been assigned to undertake a project of seawalls to address sea level rise flooding.
It is so bad that Miami Dade has approved to eliminate all septic tanks in residential homes because of the water table rise will make them inoperable and cause a health crisis.
Naturally, this will cost billions in public funding….just like Rex Tillerson suggested in his public Q&A talk several years back… privatize the profits and socialize the expenses of climate change.
Not to find fault at anyone, we can not have 8 billion on the planet without consuming fossil fuels.
Still scratching my head on the amount of mindsets not accepting climate change, or the foolish efforts being undertaken to solve it today…
Here isn Sunny South Florida expecting to break records for the High temperature yet again
Vince, that is a depressing vignette re Miami Dade. What is going to happen to that waste?!
The weather whiplash now is unnerving. It does indeed look toasty where you are: “…residents farther south can expect near record highs near 90 degrees under sunny, dry and breezy conditions.”

And yet Miami just had its coldest Christmas day on record at 50F.
https://www.cbsnews.com/miami/news/miami-weather-chill-remains-after-record-cold-christmas-day/
Hi Justin, just read your post about Christmas Day being cool.
That may be so, initially moved here in 1972 until 1989, returned in late 2015.
Have witnessed many odd weather events, even snow while driving 1-95 in the 1970s and many cold snaps…not to mention many rain, drought events.
From my own biased memory the climate patterns here have changed.
This winter season has especially been without them and the temperatures elevated. The weather report indicated that in March because of the high pressure system will bring record heat once again.
My biggest concern is the ocean water temperatures fueling mega storms
Turning into destructive hurricanes..that’s in the pipeline.
Thanks for the reply, good day!
Vince, you are welcome. There’s no doubt that Florida is warming overall, for sure, and I’m afraid destined for some mind-boggling storms. But what can you do? Even mooted climate safe havens like the Pacific NW and New Zealand are proving to be anything but, so moving anywhere is a gamble.
I just finished reading a cli-fi novel, “The Light Pirate”, telling a story of the climate collapse of Florida over a 20-year period. Much of the population moved away in dribs and drabs over time, as counties and neighbourhoods dwindled. At one point Miami had one hurricane too many, and the government gave the remaining population ‘relocation packages’ to abandon the city. One of the main characters, was a linesman in a small southern county and one day he found he had no work team left, the supply depot had not been resupplied in weeks, and the county offices had closed – and so he called the State govt to say he needed urgent help and supplies etc – to keep the local power and cell towers going – and was told ‘We can only try to save cities, nothing left for anywhere else’. Eventually, the feds abandoned the whole state – sent in buses, trucks around to evacuate anybody left. The second part of the novel is an imaginative fantasy story of the handful of people, who chose not to evacuate when they closed the state border. Could no longer go out in the daylight – heatstroke – so they became nocturnal hunter/gatherers with canoes living on platforms in the jungle canopy. Some developed a mutant symbiotic phosphorescent bacteria to release into the waters to create night-lights – hence the title 🙂
Here in Oz, we are still getting a rare respite of the “Old Normal”. However, I have family in Auckland, and they are still in shock from a 2am landslip taking their whole suburban street.
Sounds like a good read, Rain. I tend not to read fiction these days and, in fact, have been getting very lazy with books generally. I fear social media has given me the attention span of a fruit-fly.
Glad the Aussie weather is finally behaving itself; hopefully ENSO neutral for a while will mean something at least approaching normality, whatever that is these days.
