Ice usually stops melting in Greenland by September. Not this year… Greenland just experienced its largest September melt event on record, the kind typically seen in the middle of summer

‘Doomsday glacier,’ which could raise sea level by several feet, is holding on ‘by its fingernails,’ scientists say [Antarctica].

“The Thwaites Glacier, capable of raising sea level by several feet, is eroding along its underwater base as the planet warms. In a study published Monday in the journal Nature Geoscience, scientists mapped the glacier’s historical retreat, hoping to learn from its past what the glacier will likely do in the future.”

Fears for platypus populations after flooding in Queensland and NSW.

“There are fears that platypus populations might have been wiped out by recent floods in greater Brisbane, sparking new calls for the species to be nationally recognised as threatened… “With this sequence of extreme droughts, fire, floods, you are going to have areas where the platypus is going to go extinct,” researcher Gilad Bino said.”

Temperatures in parts of the San Francisco Bay Area have hit record numbers as state officials warn of blackouts throughout the state as Californians deals with intense heat.

The temperature in Livermore, located in the eastern part of the Bay Area, reached 116 degrees on Monday, the highest temperature ever recorded in the Bay area, according to the National Weather Service.”
